Flaws in Nanban but not in Vettai Mannan

Work on Shankar's Nanban with Vijay and Ileana was proceeding smoothly when suddenly a glitch was revealed. The team was checking out rushes of the film when it was seen that some of the scenes shot using a particular lens known as S5I were somewhat out of focus. The crew is working on rectifying this.

In the meantime, these lens had been booked for use by the Billa 2 team. When they heard about this slight malfunction, they cancelled the use of S51 at once. Vettai Mannan is another film for which these lenses were employed but fortunately for them, the rushes are looking good and there was no evidence of error.

Anushka out and Tamannah in!

Raghava Lawrence is currently basking in the success of Kanchana. For those who are curious about what he is doing next, the dancer/director/actor is directing a film with Telugu heartthrob, Prabhas called Rebel. Anushka was cast as the heroine in this film which was delayed as Prabhas was promoting his film Mr. Perfect and Lawrence was busy with Kanchana. But now that the director and the hero have completed their previous commitments, Rebel is ready to resume.

However, the latest is that Anushka has opted out of the project following creative differences with the director. Lawrence wasted no time in handing over the role to Tamannah who is riding the wave of success with back to back hits like 100% Love with Naga Chaitanya and Badrinath with Allu Arjun. Should we say Anushka’s loss and Tamannah’s gain?

Venkat Prabhu says Ajith fans will get to see everything!

Venkat Prabhu has said that Mankatha has been certified with a UA. The director is extremely happy that the censor board officials did not advocate any cuts and passed the film with a UA. The director added that board officials were mighty pleased with the film and thoroughly enjoyed the show. The heavily relieved Venkat Prabhu said that Ajith fans will get to see everything as there are no cuts.

With censor certification complete, the count down has begun for Ajith fans and Venkat Prabhu fans who are eagerly waiting for the release of Mankatha.

Harris Jayaraj talks about 7am Arivu and Nanban

Harris Jayaraj is very busy as he has been roped in for some of the biggest projects in the South. He has finished work on Suriya's 7am Arivu to be directed by AR Murugadoss. The music has already inflamed public interest as it will have a Chinese track for which the lyrics have been penned by Madhan Karky. The music is to be released on September 10th.

In addition to that, Harris Jayaraj is also busy with Nanban. Three songs have already been composed, now the fourth is also done. In Vijay's films the music is usually a big selling point so the makers have been very exacting and Harris as well as the rest of the team is satisfied with the result so far.

What are Arya and Maddy doing in Andhra?

Shooting of Vettai with Arya and Maddy, being directed by Lingusamy is proceeding at a brisk pace. After shooting near Kuttrallam, the unit has shifted base to a place called Madanapalle in Andhra Pradesh.

It is a small town which thrives on agricultural produce. Lingusamy found this spot to be perfect to shoot some action sequences with his leading men. We hear that there is a fight scene in a railway station complete with heavy level explosives being used. Lingusamy has asserted that the action scenes in Vettai are going to be something special.

With Arya and Madhavan thrown in to the mix, we are sure it is will be super special.

Yuvan to wed soon?

Yuvan Shankar Raja is having a fantastic year. The Mankatha album which was recently released is a huge hit and is enjoying record sales. Yuvan's work has come in for a lot of appreciation and he is relishing his success. The latest on the grapevine is that Yuvan will be getting hitched some time in September. The lucky girl is Shilpa. His family and friends feel they are very compatible and make a charming couple.

Sources reveal that Shilpa does not have a filmi background. Yuvan's first marriage to Sujaya Chandran ended within six months and the couple got a divorce by mutual consent citing irreconcilable differences. This time around all those who are close to him are hoping that the second time will be the charm for him.

Details about the wedding are being kept under tight wraps so it is to be assumed that it will be a very private affair.

Rajini voices for Anna Hazare

Rajinikanth has voiced his support for Anna Hazare and his 'India Against Corruption Movement (IAC)'. In an official statement he said, "There can be no doubt that corruption is a dreaded disease that needs to be weeded from the Indian society! I'm very happy that we have a very able and dedicated leader in Anna Hazare to lead us in this fight against corruption!

VTV actress to work with Mahesh Babu and Jiiva

Samantha made her Kollywood debut with Moscowin Cauvery but Gautham Menon’s Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya was released first in which she did a small cameo. In the Telugu version of VTV, she played Trisha's role which went on to become a great hit. With this film, Samantha’s position in Telugu Desam started becoming strong as she went on to do films with some of the biggest names like Jr. NTR

Currently, this pretty actress will be seen with none other than Mahesh Babu fondly known as Prince. This is a big budget film and it is a huge break for Sam. She has become quite the sensation in the Telugu film industry. Samantha also has been signed opposite Jiiva for Gautham Menon's as yet untitled film. New addition in Vimal's life

Vimal who shot to fame with Kalavani has become the proud father of a baby boy. His wife, Priyadharshini delivered the little bundle of joy on Sunday. Vimal was very happy that his boy was born on Krishna Jayanthi and feels that it is a most propitious sign.

On the professional front, things are looking good for Vimal as he has completed Vaagai Sooda Va with Sargunam, his Kalavani director. He will also be attempting something different in Ishtam. This talented youngster has come a long way since his Pasanga days and his career is certain to go places.

Jiiva’s wait for Mankatha

Jiiva has said that his Vandhaan Vendraan, directed by R Kannan, is ready to hit the marquee but the dates have not been announced yet as they are waiting for Mankatha’s release date. Apparently, the Vandhaan Vendraan team does not want to clash with the Ajith starrer Mankatha and filmmakers are waiting to know its release date before announcing their date, which in all likelihood will be spaced out at least by two weeks.

It may be mentioned here that Ajith’s films enjoy a very good opening and none of the actors in Kollywood want to compete with this biggie.

Vadivelu settles the issue amicably

The land grab case against Vadivelu was settled amicably between the parties with the comedian handing the land in question to its rightful owner. Retired bank official Pazhaniappan filed a complaint with the Chennai Police Commissioner that Vadivelu and family usurped his 34 cents of lands through forged documents.

Following this complaint, a case was registered on Vadivelu and others. When it was brought to the comedian’s notice that he had purchased the land based on forged documents he agreed to settle the issue amicably by returning the land’s possession to its rightful owner Pazhaniappan.

Shankar to pick up Suriya or Ajith?

The Nanban team celebrated the fact that they had completed shooting successfully with a big bash at Hotel Green Park. The entire cast and crew were present for the event. Vijay, Shankar, Jiiva, Srikanth, Harris Jayaraj were part of the festivities. A spirit of fun and bonhomie pervaded the event.

Everybody felt that they had made a good film and were proud of their collective effort. Vijay especially was happy to have worked with Shankar since he had been unable to work with him in the past. His next film will be with AR Murugadoss it is said and shooting will begin shortly.

As for Shankar, he has worked with practically all the big heroes who are beloved to the people with the exception of Suriya and Ajith. So it is hoped that he will pick up one these two for his next project.

Director threatens to immolate himself

The recently released film, Vengayam starring Sathyaraj, Alexander and Bhavina is facing problems. The director Sankagiri Rajkumar is threatening to immolate himself at the Thamaraparani Hotel located at Valaja road near Chepauk stadium. The reason is that he claims certain individuals with vested interests are sabotaging his film.

Though Vengayum cleared the censors, some theatre owners are using EFO technology while screening to mute words and portions of dialogues or lyrics which they believe are offensive. Therefore the film has been unable to make the desired impact. The climax scene has been particularly affected in an adverse manner. Unable to bear this injustice, Rajkumar is readying himself for immolation and is willing to burn to draw attention to the fate of the film.

The connection between Atharva and Perarivalan

The Rajiv Gandhi assassination case after all these years is still causing an uproar. Three of the accused - Santhan, Murugan, and Perarivalan have all been given the death sentence despite protests that they have languished in prison all these years in constant fear of being sentened to death and further punishment will be inhuman. Director Ravi Inba has decided to make a film based on the life of one of the condemned, Perarivalan of the same title.

The director said that this film is based on an issue that he feels strongly about. He said that the film will condemn capital punishment, a disgrace to civilization and an inhuman act beyond measure. Atharva will play the title role and it is going to be a definitive moment in his career. Given how passionate Tamilians are about this case and the fight to save Perarivalan from death sentence, this film is going to create tidal waves for sure.

Shankar's plans after Nanban

Shankar seems to be consumed by his work as he spends practically all his time on Nanban, with Vijay and the rest of the cast. On the rare occassions when he finds free time does he chill out to the maximum? No he doesn't, he spends that precious time working on a fresh script which will go on the floors once Nanban is done.

There has been a lot of interest on what his next project will be. Some have said that he will make another film based on tackling a particular social evil the way films like Gentleman, Indian, Anniyan, and Shivaji did. This is Shankar's forte and he is considered by many as an expert on the subject. But right now Shankar's entire focus is on Nanban and he refuses to think about anything else. Except in his free time of course.

John Abraham jumps

John Abraham is playing the lead role in Force, which is the remake of the Tamil blockbuster Kaakha Kaakha. The shooting of this movie is fast progressing and the latest buzz from the unit is that John has jumped down from 150 ft height.

Though the director had offered a dupe for this particular scene, John wanted to do it himself because he felt it would make the scene look authentic. The entire unit was awed by John’s decision and there was a huge round of applause soon after the scene was shot.

Shruti Haasan’s debut similar to Rajini’s?

Shruti Haasan will be making her acting debut in Kollywood with the Suriya starrer 7aam Arivu. There are a lot of rumors circulating about her role in this film and the latest one is that she is playing a cancer patient.

Interestingly, Kamal Haasan’s contemporary and close buddy Rajinikanth also played a cancer patient in his debut film Aboorva Ragangal and he went to scale greater heights which will be impossible for any other star to scale in the present times.

With Shruti also playing a cancer patient like Rajini, we hope she cements her place in Kollywood as strongly as her dad’s buddy.

Actor couple alleges it was done for publicity

Actor couple Prajin and Sandra, who are currently acting in the film titled Suttrula, has alleged that the film’s director is making false propaganda about them. Prajin, who is also a popular television host, has said that the film’s director had told them that their portions have been shot and they will be required only for the next schedule. Following this, the couple was given their tickets to Chennai with the instruction that they would be called on the sets when required.

Prajin alleged that this is the real situation but Suttrula’s producer has been defaming them by propagating that they left the sets without informing anyone and caused losses o the tune of two lakh rupees. The actor said that he has a feeling that this is being done to attract cheap publicity for the film.

Salman Khan to undergo angioplasty?

There were reports in the tinsel town that Salman Khan had suffered a heart attack and has been admitted to the Saifee Hospital in Mumbai. There were frantic calls to Mumbai to enquire about the star’s health. Enquiries revealed that it is mere rumor and Salman is absolutely fine.

Sources close to the star said that Salman is busy with the promotional work for Bodyguard and reports about his health are not true. It may be mentioned here that reports started making rounds yesterday that Salman had suffered a heart attack and he has been admitted to the hospital where angioplasty will be performed on him.
