A police investigation has been launched after a stretch of railway line in Aberdeenshire was damaged.
British Transport Police said the alarm was raised by a train driver on Sunday night on a stretch of track to the west of Stonehaven.

Many rush-hour services have been cancelled or delayed, with more disruption expected.

Scenes of crime officers were sent to the scene to establish how the damage was caused.

Network Rail described it as a "serious incident."

Buses are being used as an alternative for passengers.
